Photos Related to SCOR History

The photos linked below come from a variety of sources.  A large number were produced by Warren S. Wooster, who was president of SCOR from 1968 to 1973. Dr. Wooster had a distinguished career as an oceanographer and international marine science leader.  In addition, he was known to colleagues and friends for being a dedicated film photographer.  He did all his own developing, enlarging and printing, working mostly in black and white photography.  His interests included people, patterns, cultures, landscapes, architecture, and a love of nature. Dr. Wooster’s work appeared in several Seattle galleries during his time at the University of Washington.  At the School of Marine Affairs there, he often would display ten photos and ask people to guess where they were taken.  The person who guessed correctly could keep their favorite print. Deeply involved in international oceanography, and able to travel to meetings all over the world, he accumulated a large collection of candid portraits of fellow scientists.  These wonderful portraits show his keen eye, his sense of humor, and deep respect for these scientists, his close friends. Wooster’s photos are shown by year, when known, but otherwise listed in the “Year Unknown” section. Wooster’s captions are included where available.
