Hilkka Ndjaula, Namibia

Dr Hilkka O.N. Ndjaula has over 20 years of experience in marine biological research, coastal zone management and marine climate change related issues, having worked in tropical, subtropical and temperate marine ecosystems. Her main area of scientific study involves population dynamics of fish recruitment, fisheries management and the biology and ecology of marine and estuarine environments. In addition, her research has been concerned with livelihoods of fishers’ communities and vulnerability to climate change, conservation planning, fisheries co-management, monitoring and assessment of human impacts on coastal and littoral zone processes, and aquaculture. Dr Ndjaula is presently Senior Researcher at the University of Namibia’s Sam Nujoma Marine and Coastal and Resources Research Centre (SANUMARC). She served as Assistant Pro-Vice Chancellor, responsible for all fisheries and marine related graduate training and research at the University. She currently serves in National and Regional advisory committees and served as a member of the Marine Resources Advisory Council of the Ministry responsible for Fisheries and marine Resources. She is a National member of Namibia’s Marine spatial Planning (MSP) working group. She holds a PhD in Marine Biology and Fisheries Management from The University of Bergen, Norway.
