Constanza Ricaurte-Villota is a Senior Scientist, head of the Marine and Coastal Geosciences program (GEO) at INVEMAR (Institute of Marine and Coastal Research “José Benito Vives de Andreis”), Santa Marta, Colombia. She earned her Ph.D. in Coastal Oceanography in 2013 at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, Mexico. She won the National Prize of Ecology “Enrique Perez Arbelaez”, Fondo Para la Protección del Medio Ambiente “José Celestino Mutis” of Colombia. Her current research expertise is in oceanography and paleoceanography, working in the last 12 years on the impact of climate variability and climate change on coastal and marine ecosystems, especially related to changes in the water cycle, and coastal hazards.
She is Member of the National Technical Advisory Commission for Disaster Risk Knowledge, National Technical Committee on Antarctic Affairs, Colombian representative at International Panel on Deltas, Coastal Areas and Islands (IPDC) and at CoastPredict UN Decade of Ocean programme, also member of the Technical advisor group for the International Project “Impact Assessment of Climate Change on the Sandy Shorelines of the Caribbean: Alternatives for its Control and Resilience”, Association of Caribbean States.
