This group was formed, in part, to deal with issues faced by the Indian Ocean Biological Centre (IOBC) regarding preservation of zooplankton samples collected as part of the International Indian Ocean Expedition (see IOC IIOE Information Paper No. 22). The Chair of the working group was the former IOBC Curator.
