Terms of Reference
  1. To review critically the current state of knowledge of the biogeochemistry of iron in seawater. The review will cover chemical speciation, analytical techniques, transformation between different forms of iron, fluxes and distribution of iron, bio-availability of iron, and also the evidence for iron limitation of primary production in High Nutrient-Low Chlorophyll (HNLC) areas of the ocean.

  2. To identify priorities for future research in the areas covered by the review.

  3. To forge links between scientists working on iron chemistry in seawater (mainly SCOR-affiliated) and in other aquatic environments (mainly IUPAC-affiliated).

  4. To publish the review and recommendations as a joint SCOR-IUPAC volume in the well-established series on Analytical and Physical Chemistry of Environmental Systems, published by John Wiley.
