GEOTRACES (www.geotraces.org) is an international programme which aims to improve the understanding of biogeochemical cycles and large-scale distribution of trace elements and their isotopes in the marine environment. Scientists from approximately 35 nations have been involved in the programme, which is designed to study all major ocean basins.
GEOTRACES is seeking early career professionals to join a global Early Career Scientist (ECS) Committee. Early Career Scientists make up a significant portion of the GEOTRACES community and scientific capacity, and GEOTRACES would like to initiate the ECS Committee to better represent the unique insights, priorities, and concerns of this critical group at the international level.
Position Description: The GEOTRACES Early Career Scientists (ECS) committee will act as a strategic and operational body to coordinate and champion early career activities within the framework of GEOTRACES science under the supervision of the GEOTRACES Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) and the International Project Office (IPO). The GEOTRACES ECS committee will consist of 10-20 rotating members, who will each serve for a 2-year term.
Co-chairs of the GEOTRACES ECS committee will represent GEOTRACES in the UN Decade ECOP program (https://www.ecopdecade.org) and attend annual GEOTRACES SSC meetings. The inaugural co-chairs of the ECS committee will be selected by the GEOTRACES SSC co-chairs, from the applicants indicating they wish to be considered for this role.
The first ECS committee will largely meet and conduct their activity virtually. Defining appropriate frequency of meetings, terms of reference and the main goals and priorities of the committee will be their major focus over the first twelve months.
Requirements: Applicants should have completed their PhD, but be no more than 10 years from PhD (not counting time for career interruptions), and should possess knowledge and experience relevant to GEOTRACES. Candidates from developing countries, and backgrounds underrepresented in marine science, are encouraged to apply.

Deadline for applications is 1st of April 2024. The GEOTRACES Scientific Steering Committee will review and select candidates by end of May 2024.
