Prof. Claudia Benitez-Nelson, chair of the SCOR Capacity Development Committee has been appointed Chair of the Ocean Studies Board of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine of the USA.
“The Ocean Studies Board explores the science, policies, and infrastructure needed to understand, manage, and conserve coastal and marine environments and resources. In addition to exercising leadership within the ocean community, the Board undertakes studies at the request of federal agencies, Congress, or other sponsors, or upon its own initiative.”
The Ocean Studies Board also serves as the U.S. National Committee for SCOR, ensuring the participation of the U.S. oceanographic research community in the meetings and planning of SCOR activities, encouraging international cooperation in ocean research.
