Call for SOLAS Seminar Host

The SOLAS seminar series is a quarterly event, which is structured around SOLAS-relevant topics covered by the SOLAS 2015-2025 Science Plan and beyond, with the aims of fostering discussions on cutting-edge scientific questions, providing researchers at all career stages with the opportunity to interact and building SOLAS community across the globe.

Seven seminars have been organised and hosted by SOLAS scientists, which in total attracted more than 1000 registrants from over 30 countries. The recordings of the SOLAS seminars are available on the SOLAS YouTube channel

Ocean Sound Essential Ocean Variable Implementation Plan

IQOE is pleased to announce the availability of the Ocean Sound Essential Ocean Variable (EOV) Implementation Plan (see Ocean Sound Essential Ocean Variable Implementation Plan (zenodo.org)). The plan provides background for the importance of this EOV and the steps required to implement it.
IQOE proposed the Ocean Sound EOV and was assigned responsibility for this EOV when it was approved. The Ocean Sound EOV is a “cross-disciplinary” EOV in the structure of the Global Ocean Observing System because it is relevant to both Biology and Ecosystems and Physics observations and EOVs.
SCOR and POGO thank Peter Tyack (Univ. of St. Andrews/WHOI) for leading the committee that produced the plan and for the many committee members, reviewers, and organizational representatives who contributed their expertise to completing the plan. IQOE also thanks POGO and the Richard Lounsbury Foundation for providing financial support for the implementation committee and staff.

SCOR WG 167 Copernicus Special Issue Launched

The SCOR Working Group 167, RUSTED, aims at assuring the quality of aerosol trace element solubility data produced by the international research community and its use in Earth System models.

RUSTED is now calling for manuscripts to contribute to its special issue on “Reducing the Uncertainty in aerosol Soluble Trace Element Deposition.” This is a Copernicus inter-journal special issue lead by the journal  “Atmospheric Measurement and Techniques”, but submissions are also welcome in “Atmospheric  Chemistry and Physics,” “Aerosol Research,” and “Biogeosciences.”

The RUSTED special issue welcomes cutting-edge studies which advance our knowledge of the deposition of soluble aerosol trace elements and their impacts on marine ecosystems as well as manuscripts addressing challenges and/or recent advances in the field of aerosol trace element deposition. This call is open to the wider international researchers community working on trace element biogeochemistry at the air-sea interface. Please request for your inclusion to the RUSTED SI when submitting your manuscript to one of the above mentioned contributing journal. GLODAPv2.2023 data product released

Below, please find an announcement from the IOCCP office regarding the release of GLODAPv2.2023:

On behalf of the GLODAP Reference Group, and hundreds of seagoing oceanographers who tirelessly have collected data all over the ocean, we are happy to announce the publication of GLODAPv2.2023.

The Global Ocean Data Analysis Project (GLODAP) data product provides access to quality controlled surface to bottom ocean biogeochemical data, with an emphasis on seawater inorganic carbon. GLODAPv2.2023 is an update of the previous version, with 23 additional cruises and includes measurements from more than 1.4 million water samples from the global oceans collected on 1108 cruises. The data for the 13 core variables have undergone extensive quality control, especially systematic evaluation of bias. The data are available in two formats: (i) as submitted by the data originator but updated to WOCE exchange format and (ii) as a merged data product with adjustments applied to minimize bias.

The original data, their documentation and doi codes are available at the Ocean Carbon Data System of NOAA NCEI. This site also provides access to the merged data product, which is provided as a single global file and as four regional ones, and access to the GLODAPv2.2023 ODV collection.
