International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange Program

Description The IOC’s International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) was established in 1961 to enhance marine research, exploitation and development by facilitating the exchange of oceanographic data and information between participating Member States and by meeting the needs of users for data and information products.

Activity Summary Supports ocean data and information management training through regional programs (see below).  Publishes OceanTeacher, the encyclopedic training resource for various classes and workshops in these regional programs.  Maintains the OceanPortal website, a global index to ocean data and information sites on the Internet.  Performs most training at the new Project Office in Belgium.

  • OceanTeacher:  The objective of Ocean Teacher* is to provide training tools for Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange. These tools are used during IODE Training Courses but can also be used for self training and continuous professional development.
