Corina Brussaard is a senior
scientist at the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research. Her research
focuses on marine viral ecology, including
temporal and spatial dynamics of marine viruses and their
hosts, functional relationships of specific viruses to their algal hosts, the
mortality rates of phytoplankton and bacteria from viral infections, the
ecological importance of viral lysis to other loss
factors (e.g.
microzooplanktonlysis on the structure and function of the microbial
food web, isolation and characterization of novel marine viruses (including full
genome sequencing), developing molecular approaches for viral diversity studies,
and studying (under controlled conditions) the interactions between viruses and
their hosts in relation to environmentally relevant factors. |
